It’s our treat to make you treats

Little Sugar is a petite bakery based in the heart of Canterbury, known for its buttery flakey pastries and seasonal approach to baking. Our menu changes weekly and monthly to reflect the different seasonal offerings from the Garden of England around us.

We make everything in our bakery at The Goods Shed using ingredients from small producers and growers including Hinxden Dairy, Coastal Eggs, Cheesemakers of Canterbury, Estate Dairy and Shipton Mill.

Not every day is perfect, some days the cakes stick to the pans, some days are so cold the starters don't want to move, some days we run out of pastries and have to console sad faces. But it's the good days we live for. The spicy smell of ginger nuts coming out of the oven, the buttery croissant flakes that stick to your fingers, the smiles and the joy on our customer's face from that first bite.

That's why we do what we do, because sometimes we all just need a little sugar in our life.

The Sugar Babes

  • Hannah

    FOUNDER

Hannah is a baker turned pastry chef turned baker. She originally trained at The School of Artisan Food as a baker specialising in sourdough before working practicing her skills at a well respected bakery in Cambridge. During a year down under in Sydney, Hannah swapped baking for plating and transitioned into a pastry chef initially at Tetsuya's and then Matt Morans' Restaurant Aria opposite the famous Opera House. After flitting around fine dining in the UK, Hannah started Little Sugar post Covid and made her return to baking and all things butter.

At Little Sugar, you're most likely to find her rolling croissants or cooking caramel for our Caramel Peanut Brownie.

  • Joe

    FOUNDER

Joe is the backbone of our savoury and bread selection. Originally a chef, Joe joined Hannah to open Little Sugar in 2022, bringing with him over ten years of fine dining chef experience. Prior to trading tweezers for rolling pins he worked at some of the best and Michelin starred restaurants in UK & Australia including Midsummer House, Typing Room and Tetsuya's.

At Little Sugar, you're most likely to find him rolling sausage rolls or folding our country sourdough.
